Alternate Side Parking sign in New York City

Alternate side parking (“ASP”) is a very interesting activity in New York City. When you park your car on the street you must move it from your parking spot twice a week.

ASP exists so street sweeping crews clean up all the rubbish on the streets. If you don’t move your car, it’s a parking violation and a fine. After several violations, you will get the dreaded boot and you won’t be able to move your car until you pay your fines.

Alternate side parking happens twice a week and the rules are posted on signs like the one above.

Alternate Side Parking Commotion

On Fridays, I usually work from home and ASP takes place at 8:30am. There is always a cacophony of horns and drivers are stressed. People yell every expletive imaginable at one another, some drivers move their cars onto the sidewalk, and sometimes there is a coordinator who will help with the oversized Jenga game.

It’s the real face of New York. It’s quite amusing to watch and listen.

To help you understand this concept better, here’s an ASP video. It’s like herding cats, and it’s definitely not the catbird seat.

ASP during a snowstorm…Fuhgeddaboudit!

The Simile You’re Longing to Hear

You can deal with ASP on your own, but it takes a lot of effort. It’s nerve-wracking, time consuming, and you have to do it twice a week during working hours. Or you can hire someone to take care of it for you.

Car Sitter is a service that will tend to your car when it has to be moved for Alternate Side Parking. It seems like a wonderful operation that will save you a lot of stress and time.

Further, you can pay to park your car in a garage. This service is a level above but it frees up more time and reduces your worry. And you don’t have to spend time cleaning snow from your car.

These car parking services are just like hiring a financial planner. A planner will make your money life so much simpler and easier. Plus you don’t have to worry if you are making the right or wrong money decisions.

It would be great to chat about how I can help you.
