Surfing is such a great sport that can teach you a lot about life. I just returned from a wonderful surf trip in California. It was so beautiful and amazing. Furthermore, it was important for me because I haven’t surfed since last summer.
Building a business is involved and time consuming. Moreover, I’ve also had some injuries. After a lot of physical therapy, stretching, and at-home exercises I am healthy again.
Lessons from a Surf Odyssey
Given that it was my first time back in the water in a little while, I contacted my instructor, Mary. She is a professional surfer and champion longboarder and we began at an easy break – Mondos, right along the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s idyllic – palm trees, great weather, and nice waves.
I was feeling good and surfing exceptionally well, so the next few days we surfed Solimar. It’s a little bit tougher of a break, not to mention, home to the local, 12 foot great white shark – Bruce.
During our last session, we surfed Rincon, one of the best breaks in California. There are always a lot of very-talented surfers there, so the competition is intense. If you are lucky you will see a world champion like Tom Curren in the water.
So how did I get to surf such great waves? I’ve been at it for many, many years. Along the way, there’s been a lot of top-notch guidance and instruction from Mary. Without her tips and teaching, I would still be flailing around on the easy waves at Mondos.
Instead I surf the breaks where the pros go! I’m part of the varsity team!
